I am Auriea Harvey (US/BE, 1971), a Visual Artist working in traditional and interactive media. Trained as a sculptor (Parsons School of Design, NYC), auto-didact designer (Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht) and with a passion for drawing (Studio Escalier, Paris) I am currently exploring the intersections of art history, technological creation, and traditional artistic craft.

I have a long term collaboration with Michaël Samyn as co-founder of Tale of Tales, our studio in Gent, Belgium. With Tale of Tales, I’ve been designer, art director and lead 3d artist on 8 video games, all openly available online. Our current on-going project is Cathedral-in-the-Clouds where we are building a VR cathedral and digital versions of ecclesiastical artworks free for everyone to contemplate and enjoy. In this project we bring together our love for figuration, philosophy of videogame design, respect for artistic tradition and our general hardcore tech-nerdiness.

Alongside this I am beginning to teach. I’m giving lessons to undergrads in Drawing+Digital Media at Parsons Paris in fall of 2016. And I will be an instructor for the masters-level program of Game/Play University at ILUM in Milan. Starting in April of 2017 I will be leading the LAB module, which will be a crash course in experimental asset creation for realtime environments.
